What is a Jet Pulse Filter?

A Jet Pulse Filter (baghouse) is an industrial dust collection system that eliminates 99.9% of dust and particulates generated during heavy industry operations like cement, steel, mining, and food processing by using compressed air shocks.

  • Working Principle: As dirty air passes through the exterior of filter bags, dust is collected on the surface while clean air is exhausted out.
  • Automated Cleaning (Jet Pulse): High-pressure compressed air is injected into the filter bags for fractions of a second via timed valves, knocking the accumulated dust cake into the bottom hopper.
  • Advantages: Offers continuous 24/7 operation, self-cleans without interrupting the system, and extends maintenance intervals.
  • Applications: Pneumatic conveying lines, silo filling stations, fly ash filtration, and crushing-screening facilities.

Ducon Pulse Air and Reverse Air type Baghouse Filters

MDSJ supplies pulse-air and reverse air type baghouse filters for industrial and utility applications. Over the years MDSJ has provided hundreds of successfully operating installations for a variety of industries, such as: coal, cement, steel, power, mining and chemical.

MDSJ's Bag Filters are state of the art, high efficiency, modular filters designed to handle gas volumes from several hundred to several thousand cubic meter per minute. All MDSJ Bag Filters are custom designed for optimum air-to-cloth ratios, longer bag life and higher particulate removal efficiencies.

For large power plant applications, MDSJ supplies reverse air baghouses utilizing 8-METER -long bags. MDSJ can provide bags with a wide choice of materials including: Polyester, NOMAX, Acrylic, Teflon, Ryton, fiberglass, or sintered metal. MDSJ baghouse can provide over 90% mercury removal from coal-fired boiler exhaust gases.and incinerator.

Where is it strongest?

  • Jet-pulse and baghouse systems are well suited to continuous-duty dust handling in cement, metal, mining, and bulk-solids lines.
  • They are commonly used on silo vents, crushing-screening lines, transfer points, and process-extraction systems.
  • In dry collection duty, they can also support product recovery instead of simple disposal.

Selection criteria

  • Airflow, dust characteristics, temperature, humidity, and acceptable pressure loss should be evaluated together.
  • Bag media and cage design influence not only filtration behavior but also service life.
  • Pulse-valve count, hopper discharge arrangement, and maintenance access shape field performance.

Operation and maintenance notes

  • Over-aggressive pulse cleaning can shorten bag life, while weak cleaning drives pressure loss upward.
  • If hopper discharge and leakage points are not monitored, field performance degrades quickly.
  • Bag replacement strategy, isolation, and maintenance platforms should be planned from the start.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are jet-pulse filters and baghouses the same thing?

Baghouse is the broader family term; jet pulse is one of the most common automatic-cleaning architectures within that family.

Why is bag-media selection so important?

Temperature, humidity, chemical exposure, and dust behavior all affect service life and pressure loss when the media is not matched correctly.

What most strongly affects energy use?

System resistance, fan selection, and differential-pressure management are the main energy drivers.
